Press Release: Barnham Broom Golf Club Puts Focus on Female Team Members for International Women’s Day
For immediate release: Thursday 7th March 2019
With International Women’s Day on Friday 8th March 2019, Barnham Broom is celebrating the role of women in its Golf Club.
Often seen as a male-dominated profession, Barnham Broom shines when it comes to the role of leading ladies on the team.
The Club recently welcomed new Head of Golf, Karen Woodrow, who has a wealth of experience from her time at England Golf. Karen is already making a host of positive changes at the Club and her expertise and guidance is sure to take Barnham Broom from strength to strength.
Ellie Brown, at just 21 years old has already been a member at Barnham Broom Golf Club for over 10 years. An outstanding golfer, Ellie is currently sitting exams to qualify as a PGA Professional. When she’s not providing advice in the golf shop, she’s out on the course offering tuition for the Club’s members. She also runs junior lessons alongside PGA Professionals, Alan Hemsley and Matt Gardner.
Out on the course, Barnham Broom’s Deputy Head Greenkeeper, Kimberley Yeldham, is an essential part of the team; maintaining the highest standards on the golf course. A traditionally male-dominated role, Kimberley, rain or shine, bucks the trend with her enthusiasm for the game and maintaining two outstanding 18-hole golf courses.
Barnham Broom is actively working to encourage women to the game and are in the process of signing up to R&A’s Women’s Golf Charter.
On 4th June 2019, Barnham Broom will be taking part in Women’s Golf Day. A fantastic international community dedicated to engaging, empowering and supporting women through golf. In conjunction with this, the Club will be offering free taster sessions on 4th May 2019 for girls as part of the initiative Girls Golf Rocks.

Press Release: Success for Macmillan Charity Golf Day
For immediate release: Tuesday 29th January 2019
The 20th Macmillan Charity Golf Day was held at Barnham Broom Golf Club at the end of 2018 where over 100 golfers turned out to support the charity.
The official grand total from the event of £11,385.00 has now been verified. The event was made possible through the support of Barnham Broom, local companies and individuals alike.
After golf on the 18-hole Valley Course, a dinner was held along with an auction and raffle together with a variety of donated rounds of golf from many Clubs which were sold by silent auction.
Organiser Graham Knights, who is an Ambassador for Macmillan in Norfolk, commented that the amount raised from this event now makes a grand figure raised over the 20 years in excess of £200,000.00 and he thanked all those who had supported the day and previous events to make this possible, especially Spire Solicitors as main sponsors and Barclays Bank for their pound matching donation.
The money will be used to help cancer patients in Norfolk to hopefully make their lives a little bit easier at a difficult time.
Mr Knights also praised Barnham Broom saying that the event would not be possible without the support of hotel, events and golf staff.
Next year’s event is already being planned for 4th October 2019 at Barnham Broom.

Press Release: Success for East Anglia’s Largest Ever Charity Golf Day
For immediate release: Monday 29th October 2018
On Friday 26th October 2018, Barnham Broom was delighted to host East Anglia’s largest ever charity golf day in memory of dear friend and colleague, Brian Lemmon.
In total, over £3000 was raised for the local charity, Star Throwers, which was nominated by Mr Lemmon’s wife, Eileen, and two sons, Matthew and James. The charity, based in Wymondham, supports cancer patients and their families and offers support and advice to those affected by cancer.
Brian Lemmon was a Greenkeeper at Barnham Broom for over thirty years and was a valued member of the team and significantly contributed towards making Barnham Broom’s two 18-hole golf courses what they are today.
Over 220 golfers came together to support the event. The day began with refreshments, followed by a shotgun start for the participants who were spread out in their teams across the Valley and the Hill courses. After, all supporters enjoyed hog roast, raffle and auction. Many generous prizes were donated by both members and non-members of the club.
The hugely successful day was enjoyed by all and, with such a large turnout, is the East Anglia’s largest charity golf day to date – an achievement which Barnham Broom is keen to improve upon next year with a focus on bringing the golfing community together whilst raising money for local charities.
Resident golf expert, Golf Shop Supervisor and PGA Professional, Matthew Gardner commented:
This was the first time we had played the Brian Lemmon Charity Golf Day after Brian’s passing last year. We had 220 people playing a Texas scramble in his honour with 97 non-members and 123 members playing over the Hill and Valley courses…This is what Brian loved most, golf with his mates and a drink afterwards – bring on next year. Hopefully we can make it even bigger and better! Go Team Barnham!
A spokesperson for Star Throwers commented:
Thank you to everyone who supported this amazing golf day in aid of Star Throwers.
Photos from the day can be viewed here.
