As the weather warms up so the layers of winter woollies come off – often to reveal pasty, white skin and the effects of too much comfort food!

Whether your aim is weight loss or increased muscle tone, try these top tips from Leisure Club Manager Corey Knoop to help you look healthy, toned and ready to hit the beach!

*Schedule regular exercise into your diary – if you make time for your fitness programme in advance you are more likely to stick with it.

*Choose a sport you enjoy – such as swimming, walking, golf or tennis – that way exercise becomes something you look forward to, rather than a chore.

*Improve your diet!Cut down on junk food and increase your intake of fresh fruit and vegetables; eat oily fish regularly for the essential omega 3 fats it contains but reduce the amount of saturated fat in your diet; drink less alcohol tea and coffee, which can leave you feeling dehydrated, but increase your water intake – aim for two litres of mineral water a day.

*Aim to exercise on average three times a week, more if possible. Don’t worry if you are unable to achieve that, especially at the beginning. Remember any exercise is better than no exercise at all and, as you become fitter, it becomes easier to work out for longer.

*Set yourself small, realistic goals and reward yourself when you achieve them. Aim to lose no more than 1lb – 2lb a week, any more than that and you will be losing muscle as well as fat. You didn’t put on your extra weight in a week so don’t expect to lose it in a week – look on your new healthy lifestyle as a change for life!
